Job Summary
We are seeking an IT Analyst Technical Infrastructure ( OpenVMS Systems Administrator ) to join our IT Infrastructure Support - CAT IT Division.
The preference for this role is to be based out of Bangalore – Caterpillar PSN
This position requires candidate to work a 5-day -a -week schedule.
Shift Timing : 01:00-10:00PM IST
Position Summary
The OpenVMS Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring, and support of mission-critical OpenVMS environments supporting warehouse automation, parts distribution, and manufacturing applications across multiple global locations. This role provides operational support for both physical OpenVMS Integrity servers and emulated OpenVMS environments hosted on Vere Technologies virtual servers, ensuring high availability, system performance, security, and business continuity for critical enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
OpenVMS Infrastructure Administration
Administer and maintain a production OpenVMS Cluster
Monitor and maintain OpenVMS operating systems and associated layered products.
Plan, test, and implement operating system upgrades, patches, and software updates.
Troubleshoot hardware, software, operating system, and application-related issues.
Perform performance analysis and capacity planning activities.
Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize operational impact.
Virtual OpenVMS Environment Support
Administer emulated OpenVMS servers
Apply upgrades, patches, and software maintenance to Vere Technologies platforms and supporting infrastructure.
Monitor virtual host performance and resource utilization.
User and Security Administration
Create, modify, and disable OpenVMS user accounts according to approved access requests.
Manage user privileges and security settings in accordance with company policies.
Support audit and compliance requirements related to system access and security controls.
System Monitoring and Operations
Monitor system health, availability, and performance across all OpenVMS environments.
Manage and monitor:
Disk capacity and utilization
Printer queues
Batch processing queues
System backups and recovery processes
Investigate and resolve operational incidents and system alerts.
Maintain documentation for procedures, configurations, and system changes.
Backup and Disaster Recovery
Execute and validate backup procedures for physical and virtual OpenVMS systems.
Support disaster recovery testing and recovery planning activities.
Ensure backup integrity and data recoverability.
Global Support
Provide infrastructure support for multiple business applications, including the widely utilized CAPP+ application environment.
Collaborate with application teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and infrastructure teams to resolve system issues and implement enhancements.
Support global business operations requiring high system availability and reliability.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Extensive experience administering OpenVMS operating systems.
Experience supporting OpenVMS Cluster environments.
Knowledge of OpenVMS system management, storage, user administration, and security.
Experience applying operating system patches, upgrades, and software maintenance.
Experience managing backups, disaster recovery processes, and system monitoring.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Experience supporting mission-critical production environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with HPE Integrity Server hardware.
Experience with Vere Technologies OpenVMS emulation solutions.
Knowledge of warehouse management systems and automated material handling environments.
Experience supporting global enterprise applications.
Familiarity with high-availability and business continuity practices.
Experience working in manufacturing, logistics, or parts distribution environments.
